Truth?

For 2021, I am reading through the Bible with the Bible Project-Biblical Storyline Reading Plan on the YouVersion App. This devotional will follow along with the daily reading.

Today's reading is: Genesis 8-11

What if you lived a good life but missed God?

Can you believe in both God and science?

“ My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.” - Stephen Hawking, as quoted in Stephen Hawking's Universe (1985) by John Boslough, Ch. 7 : The Final Question, p. 77

Science is a method of inquiry. Science is the way, not the truth. Those who correctly understand science know that it is foolish to say, "the science is clear". There is no "the science". Science is how you go about experimenting, not what you find as a result of the scientific process.

For some people, science is the only way to arrive at truth. They will only believe on the basis of proof that is found from using science on collected data.  The idea that there is a God is impossible for them to accept because they depend upon their own ability to know things which are unknowable unless the Spirit of God reveals them.

1 Corinthians 2:14 NASB - But a natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Now, you can believe that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and also use the scientific method to draw conclusions about how the world functions.

So, the question is: How do you find the truth?

Stephen Hawking sought to conquer the world by understanding it scientifically. His truth could not exist without science. There is no way for God to fit into that truth. It is not the same truth as Christians hold. Christians know Jesus to be a living, breathing, walking embodiment of Truth. Christians find the Truth through Christ, while science is how Christians study what God has created. Christians know that we will not know everything by studying it scientifically or any other way. Jesus and science can both be relied upon, but ultimately you cannot have truth without Jesus.

Isaiah 40:23 NIV - Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

The people of Babel sought to conquer the world around them by the use of technology. Technology in and of itself is not bad. However technology does little to prepare us for eternal life.

What good would it be to live a good comfortable life but miss God? One would be impacted by the goodness of God for temporary time and miss all of eternity being in close joyous contact with Him forever.

Genesis 11:7 BSB - Come, let Us go down and confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”

Sometimes God frustrates our aims, because what we think we want is not good enough. God will not stop training us until we want what is best for us, Himself.

We are learning how to enjoy loving as God loves. When we see the Tower of Babel through God's eyes, we see the love of God who wants no one to perish. We see God who will do whatever it takes to give us a sense of His glory so that we will choose to be with Him forever. Anything we would pursue without God's glory is not worth our time.

2 Corinthians 4:4- BSB- 4The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Story?

For 2021, I am reading through the Bible with the Bible Project-Biblical Storyline Reading Plan on the YouVersion App. This devotional will follow along with the daily reading. The reading for January 14 is: Genesis 41-42 We find in Genesis 41:8 that no one could interpret the dream of Pharaoh. In Genesis 41:16 Joseph makes it clear that God is the One who interprets dreams.  In Genesis 41:39, Pharaoh tells Joseph that because God has revealed this to Joseph, surely Joseph is the most discerning and wise. We find that Joseph finally understood the meaning of the dreams he had about his brothers bowing down to him. Joseph's story was really about God all along. God had put Joseph in exactly the right place with the gift of dream interpretation that only comes from God. God shows Himself through the life of Joseph.  I am not the hero of my story. So, when I feel left behind in my own life, I need to remind myself. God is here too. God will handle my deepest needs when the time i...

Aroma Of Christ To God

What keeps our fire burning for God is the courage that comes from growing in the grace, that is, obeying God in doing what we cannot do without God’s divine empowerment, His grace. So, why are there people who call themselves Christians who do not do what God wants them to do? These are people who want something apart from God. Maybe they became aware of the good they ought to do by reading their Bible or in prayer, but instead of obeying God’s plan for their gifts, they put God out of their mind and went the other way. Maybe they weren’t willing to quit leaning on their favorite crutch when God called them to be free of its burden. Maybe they were afraid that they were not good enough to do what God called them to do.  The result of disobedience is dullness. If we fail to turn everything in us over to God for His glory, then we lose the power of God’s grace in our lives to bring joy from obedience. If we refuse to give ourselves fully to God, then the Bible only reminds us that...
